Scotty’s Little Soldiers is a national charity that supports children and young people, aged 0 to 25, who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces.

Support is available whether their parent died while serving or as a veteran, and whatever the cause - including through illness, accident, suicide or while on active duty. Scotty’s ensures bereaved military children and their families are supported, empowered, and never alone.

About George

This soldier stands as a lasting symbol of remembrance, honouring all who served in the First and Second World Wars and in every conflict since.

His silent presence reminds us of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience shown by ordinary men and women in extraordinary times.

Each year on Remembrance Day, George will take his place in a new location, continuing his role as a moving tribute to those who gave so much.

He is called George, a name chosen by the creator, Christopher, in memory of his grandfather of a similar stature who served in the forces.

The name is both deeply personal and universally symbolic, representing every soldier who gave their all for future generations.

Crafted from Corten steel, the same enduring material used to create the Angel of the North, George is rooted in the heritage of the North East of England.

Over time, his weathered surface will change, reflecting both the passage of years and the lasting nature of remembrance. Through his unique design, George vanishes when viewed from certain angles, only to reappear as you continue walking.

This fleeting presence mirrors the way those who served are gone from sight, yet never forgotten, always returning to our thoughts and our hearts. George is placed here so that we all may pause, reflect, and understand the true cost of peace.

He is not only a memorial to the fallen, but also a call to remember the values they fought for: duty, courage, and unity.
